Klang, 4 August 2026 – Metropolitan College conducted a courtesy visit to Jabatan Laut Malaysia as part of the College’s continuous efforts to strengthen engagement with government departments and foster meaningful connections in support of education, professional development and lifelong learning.
The session was chaired by Lt. Kol. Bersekutu (PA) Raja a/l Chinaya @ Sinniah, Pengarah BKP, together with Heads of Department from Jabatan Laut Malaysia. Their participation provided an opportunity for an engaging exchange of perspectives on education, workforce development and the importance of continuous learning among working professionals.
During the session, Metropolitan College introduced its educational offerings and shared information on its Open & Distance Learning (ODL) Diploma programmes, which are designed to provide flexible learning opportunities for individuals who wish to pursue further academic qualifications while continuing with their professional commitments.
The discussion highlighted the growing importance of flexible education for working adults, particularly for individuals who need to balance their studies with work and family responsibilities. The ODL approach provides an alternative pathway for learners to continue developing their knowledge and qualifications without relying on conventional full-time classroom learning.
The engagement also provided an opportunity to discuss the relevance of academic programmes to different professional functions within the public sector. In particular, the Diploma in Public Administration was highlighted during the discussion in relation to areas such as administration, licensing, organisational operations and public service delivery.
Beyond academic qualifications, both parties exchanged perspectives on the importance of encouraging a culture of lifelong learning and continuous professional development. Further education can provide working professionals with opportunities to broaden their knowledge, strengthen existing competencies and gain new perspectives that complement their workplace experience.
The session was further enriched by the participation of Jabatan Laut Malaysia’s Heads of Department, allowing for a broader exchange of views across different areas of the organisation. Their involvement reflected the value of creating greater awareness of educational pathways and professional development opportunities within the workplace.
For Metropolitan College, engagements with government departments such as Jabatan Laut Malaysia provide valuable opportunities to better understand the professional development landscape within the public sector while strengthening connections between higher education and the working community.
The courtesy visit was conducted in a welcoming and constructive atmosphere, with both parties exchanging insights on education, professional development and opportunities for continued institutional engagement.
Metropolitan College extends its sincere appreciation to Lt. Kol. Bersekutu (PA) Raja a/l Chinaya @ Sinniah, Pengarah BKP, the Heads of Department and the team at Jabatan Laut Malaysia for their warm welcome and hospitality throughout the visit.
