Metropolitan College recently conducted a courtesy visit to Sunshine Kids HQ, marking another step in the College’s ongoing efforts to strengthen industry engagement and build meaningful connections within the early childhood education sector.
During the visit, Metropolitan College representatives met with Dr. R.V. Shyamprasad, Principal of Sunshine Kids HQ, for an engaging discussion centred on early childhood education, professional development and opportunities for greater interaction between academia and industry.
Sunshine Kids operates 11 branches across Negeri Sembilan and Petaling Jaya, providing kindergarten and daycare services. The organisation also places strong emphasis on staff development, with structured training provided to new employees before they begin their roles, followed by continuous training to support teaching quality and professional growth.
The meeting provided an opportunity for Metropolitan College to share information about its educational offerings, particularly the Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE), while gaining valuable insights into the needs and practices of the early childhood education industry.
A key area discussed during the engagement was the importance of connecting classroom learning with practical industry experience. Both parties exchanged perspectives on how educational institutions and early childhood education providers can contribute towards preparing students with relevant knowledge, practical exposure and a better understanding of the professional environment.
The discussion also explored various opportunities for future academic and industry engagement, including student internship opportunities, webinars, career talks, industry sharing sessions and guest speaker initiatives. Such activities can provide students with greater exposure to industry perspectives and complement the knowledge and skills developed throughout their studies.
As an experienced trainer, Dr. Shyamprasad also expressed his willingness to contribute to future knowledge-sharing activities with Metropolitan College students, providing an opportunity for students to learn directly from an industry practitioner.
The engagement further highlighted the potential for closer interaction between Sunshine Kids and Metropolitan College’s Early Childhood Education academic team, particularly in areas that encourage the exchange of knowledge, practical experience and industry insights.
For Metropolitan College, building relationships with industry practitioners and organisations is an important part of creating a learning environment that remains connected to current professional practices. Engagements such as this provide opportunities for academic teams and students to gain valuable industry perspectives while strengthening the connection between education and the workplace.
Metropolitan College extends its appreciation to Dr. R.V. Shyamprasad and Sunshine Kids for the warm welcome and constructive exchange of ideas.
The College looks forward to maintaining a positive relationship with Sunshine Kids and exploring further opportunities for academic engagement, student development, industry exposure and knowledge sharing in the future
