Metropolitan College recently conducted a courtesy academic visit to the Malaysian Prisons Department (Jabatan Penjara Malaysia) at its headquarters in Kajang, Selangor. The College was received by Penguasa Penjara Muhammad Syafiq bin Mohd Sarif, Head of the Academic Planning and Studies Unit, along with the department’s Liaison Officer, Insp. Mohd Fitri Hafiz bin Mat Husin.
The purpose of the visit was to introduce Metropolitan College’s Open and Distance Learning (ODL) diploma programmes and to explore opportunities to extend access to these qualifications among officers and staff of the Malaysian Prisons Department.
During the session, the College presented its fully online learning model, highlighting its key strengths including flexible scheduling, affordable programme fees, e-learning accessibility, and a coursework-based assessment structure that requires no final examinations.
These features were well-received, with Penguasa Muhammad Syafiq acknowledging that the programmes are well-suited to working adults, particularly prison officers who wish to pursue higher education without disrupting their professional duties.
The visit concluded positively, with both parties expressing openness to future engagement. Metropolitan College remains committed to broadening access to quality, MQA-recognised diploma programmes for Malaysia’s public service and law enforcement community.
