Strengthening Educational Partnerships: Metropolitan College Engages with Jabatan Penjara Malaysia Through ODL Programme Promotion

At Metropolitan College, we are committed to making higher education more accessible to working professionals by bringing flexible learning opportunities directly to government agencies across Malaysia.

As part of this commitment, Metropolitan College recently participated in a promotional booth at the Headquarters of Jabatan Penjara Malaysia, providing an opportunity to introduce our Open & Distance Learning (ODL) Diploma Programmes to officers and staff while strengthening relationships with key stakeholders within the department.

Promoting Flexible Learning for Prison Personnel

During the programme, the Metropolitan College booth was honoured by the visit of TKJP Zaidi bin Hamid, Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons (Management), who was introduced to the College’s flexible ODL programmes.

The discussion highlighted the advantages of Metropolitan College’s learning model, particularly its suitability for working adults through:

●100% online learning
● No final examinations
● Flexible study schedule
● Affordable tuition fees
● Designed specifically for working professionals

The programmes received positive recognition as a practical option for prison officers seeking to further their education while continuing their professional responsibilities.

Metropolitan College also had the opportunity to engage with PKP Mohd Irwan bin Awang,
Deputy Director (Development Section), who expressed his support in promoting the
educational opportunities to officers within Jabatan Penjara Malaysia.

Expanding Our Reach to Prison Institutions

A valuable recommendation from the engagement was for Metropolitan College to extend future promotional activities beyond the headquarters and into prison institutions nationwide.

It was shared that while the headquarters mainly consists of administrative personnel, prison institutions are home to a much larger number of operational and enforcement officers who would greatly benefit from flexible higher education opportunities.

Metropolitan College looks forward to exploring these opportunities through future educational roadshows and promotional engagements across Jabatan Penjara Malaysia.

Looking Ahead

Metropolitan College remains committed to collaborating with government agencies in
supporting lifelong learning, professional development, and career advancement through
flexible, industry-relevant higher education.
